ELWIMAT® VarioFoc

Fully Electronic Autocollimator with Variable Object Distance

The ELWIMAT® VarioFoc is a compact, highly precise electronic autocollimator with an integrated focus function for setting variable object distances. It is ideal for applications with changing test piece distances, such as in alignment, validation, or calibration of optical systems. Whether in series testing or the laboratory – the VarioFoc offers maximum flexibility while maintaining excellent accuracy.

Flexible Object Distance through Motorized Focus Adjustment

The integrated linear slide allows the focus point to be adjusted electronically – from infinity to just a few centimeters. This enables precise simulations of both real and virtual object positions. It allows for accurate testing of camera modules, lenses, LiDAR sensors, or cylindrical optics – even in automated inline inspection.

Highest Accuracy Even at Large Distances

Despite its high flexibility, the system provides subpixel-accurate angle measurement with resolutions up to 1.8″ and a slide positioning accuracy of 2 µm. Even at large virtual or real distances, linearity remains < 1% (or better with mapping file).

Digital Control & Reticle Variety

The ELWISOFT software offers a touch-optimized interface, subpixel-accurate analysis, focus control, and automatic logging. The following reticles are available for adapting to various applications: Crosshairs (10/30 µm), Pinholes (20–1000 µm), MTF reticle with inclined edge, custom shapes on request. Thanks to USB 3.0, serial interface, and JSON protocol, the VarioFoc is fully Industry 4.0 compatible.

Simultaneous measurement of angle & position

With the ELWIMAT®-VFS 4000, angles (in two axes) in the arcsecond range and position deviations in the micrometer range can be simultaneously measured—using just one measurement process. This saves time, increases precision, and minimizes misalignments in optical systems.

Thanks to its opto-electronic design, the system is freely positionable and offers high reproducibility even at long working distances. Tolerance fields can be displayed live in the camera image—complete with color change when limits are exceeded.
